Validation and Psychometric Evaluation of the Italian Version of the Bergen–Yale Sex Addiction Scale

Abstract Excessive problematic sexual behavior in the form of compulsive disorder (CSBD), hypersexuality (HS), and sex addiction has gained increasing credibility recent years led to development various psychometric instruments assess such behavior. However, there is still considerable controversy over operational definition concepts whether they can be used interchangeably describe One recently developed tool Bergen–Yale Sex Addiction Scale (BYSAS) based on “components model addiction.” The present study validated Italian version BYSAS. BYSAS was administered a large Italian-speaking sample adults [ N = 1230, aged 18 67 years] along with assessing “Big Five” personality traits, self-esteem, depression, two other measures addictive (i.e., PATHOS Shorter PROMIS Questionnaire–Sex Subscale). Confirmatory factorial analysis supported one-factor solution. Furthermore, scale had good internal consistency (Cronbach’s α 0.787). positively associated extroversion, openness experience, behavior, negatively conscientiousness, emotional stability, agreeableness, age. Based findings, brief, psychometrically reliable valid measure for among adults.
